I could go on forever talking about this book! I really hated Zack but couldn't bring myself to dislike Zan in the beginning. Chelsea does an amazing job with all the small things she added to make us really against Zack right from the start. Even the smallest detail really brought out his creep factor.
However, as much as I understand Lottie and her friends reaction to both brothers I just couldn't bring myself to be on her side. I did find myself on Zan's side even before I knew his secrete. I also love it that Lottie didn't abandon her friend after the accident and that she tried to convice her friend not to go with Zack or even Zan when they were drunk no matter how short the drive was going to be. You can't control what other people do only what you do. I've been there far too many times count when I was that age so it's perfect for the new adults to get a few life lessons in that might help them if they find themselves in similar situations.
Zan had an awesome social worker. There are not many good ones but there are a few awesome ones out there that really make the difference. I loved how even his social worker's charisma shined through even though we only got her in very small doses. She did such an excellent job with the whole cast of characters that if I had the time I could pick out each one and talk about them. And I do mean every single one because I felt like I knew them all.
She had great balance in her writing and getting into these characters was easy. But there was a lot of repetitiveness when the POV switched. You get both sides of every major encounter and that was a bit much repeat for me for it to be 5 star. But even with how annoyed that made me I really still couldn't put it down, reading the whole book in 1 day. It's a good thing I started it on a Saturday and was able to do that.
I do find myself
wondering what happened to a certain group of girls that were mentioned a
few times and disappeared. Even though that is what typically happens
in life in books it's nice to know what happened!
We get a lot of intense feelings and situations that a lot of college kids find themselves in or their friends in. And I really love their friends sub-plot because it's a serious issue a lot of my own friends and I went through in college. The healing/romance of the young women in the sub plot you can read in book 2 Faster We Burn. I hope to have time to read that one soon.
