Book Title: Shattered
Author: CC Brown

*I was given an ARC by the author for an honest review.

At first I really disliked this book.  No seriously, I didn't like it.  Wait. Hang in there with me.  Don't go anywhere. Those first 4 chapters were a little painful for me to read. They showed me characters I just didn't like. I didn't like who Dallis was or how she treated Colby. She came off  mean and witchy. In return I didn't like Colby because he really didn't seem to care how he made Dallis feel. He knew she didn't want what he wanted and seemed like he'd hound her until she gave in. The one thing I realized I loved was Dallis didn't give into Colby!

You may be asking yourself how I can give this 4 stars.   Well it's simple. The book CHANGED and the characters before my eyes seemed to expand and grow.  Once you get through those first few chapters and you start to see the change you see the wonderful talent C.C. has to write this story. So if you read it and feel like I did in those first few chapters keep going. You'll most likely see the beauty in her writing when you do.  Or skip to chapter 5. You'll miss the art and wonder of the creation that is Dallis if you skip those first few chapters. But don't put it down!  Seriously, it turns into a really great story with great characters packed full of emotion.
Dallis is like a caterpillar. Things are not good in her life and she knows it. She knows she doesn't want to marry her boyfriend but she wasn't ready to break up with him. Especially, after losing both her parents. It really locked her down emotionally. But once she's had enough she doesn't turn back. She doesn't just jump into another relationship either. I loved seeing her change little by little during that between time and after. I could FEEL her coming out of her shell! It was beautiful!
I LOVE GRAYSON! I loved him from the first moment we get to see him. He's not a know it all perfect male. He's down to earth and just trying to make the best of life that he can. He's not an angry jealous man with an out of control temper. He's mellow, loving, and just wonderfully male. He knows there is something between them but doesn't push it. Giving her some space and taking time to get to know her before asking her out.  You could tell Grayson really cared about Dallis.
All in all I'm really glad I got to read this book.  If you want something a little different from the normal plot structure this is for you. Don't expect a girl meets boy, they like each other, fight, and then ultimately come together. Because this isn't any of those books.  Okay I admit I love those books. This however is a little different. Maybe it's even unique.  I can't recall a book I've read like it.

Blurb:
When it rains it pours….
Hard-nosed and self-reliant Dallis O'Brien has had her fair share of devastation. Her father's tragic accident sparked what seemed like a domino effect of heartbreak and loss. Unable to shake the fear of enduring any more pain, she builds walls around her heart, hoping to heal on her own.
Dallis' road to recovery is disrupted when she meets Grayson Rivera, a tattooed, coffee shop owner who, by appearances alone, isn't her typical match. Stubborn and hesitant to let him in, Dallis finally succumbs to Grayson's persistence, where he challenges her to face her loss while also having the walls of her heart broken down.
With Grayson's assistance, Dallis must decide if she is willing to learn how to be weak in order to be strong

About the Author:
Just a book reading, writing loving, mommy and USMC wife! :)

I love to write, even if it isn't what is conventional and makes everyone feel giddy inside. I usually pull from dreams, or ideas that just thrust themselves into my head. I have what some would describe as a dry sense of humor, and I think its conveyed in my writing. I like to think I am a kick ass chick, but I can also be sensitive. I'm learning to grow thick skin, and in this field, it is definitely needed!
I won't put anything out that I am not absolutely proud of, but like E.L. James said, "I can't own people's reactions to it." Thanks for reading my work... I do appreciate it!
